After last Thursday’s shenanigans, we’ve been spending a lot of time talking to insurance companies and various levels of police officers.
All of this warranted a complete wipe out for Thursday and Friday of last week work-wise and most of Sunday, compiling a list of the stuff we had stored in the caravan for the insurance.
If you think this latter element shouldn’t have taken us long, try it for yourself whilst simultaneously researching current prices for replacements on the web.
All in all; a pain in the fucking arse (I’m still in swear mode as you can tell). Having said that though, the police have been very attentive and helpful and against my better judgement I can honestly say the three insurance companies we’re dealing with (caravan, my car, wife’s car) have all been helpful and reactive in a positive way.
That aside though, we haven’t started talking settlement money yet – so time will tell if this trend continues.
Sharing our predicament to the quite often fickle and shallow world of social media via Facebook and Twitter, resulted in some comforting comments from people who’ve actually met me.
From Twitter these included:
“read it [Blog Post] this afternoon. Tw@ts” @dannymatharu
“wow… Tuff night.. Just think on positive side, your all ok. Cars and vans can be easily replaced” @aelhawley
“Hi Jamie, sorry to hear about your car and caravan, but you’re ok and thats the main thing xx” @Tracy_M_Walker
“sorry to hear about the caravan Jamie. Glad u and the missus are safe!” @codebluecomms
“just read about your caravan. Really sorry to hear the news mate.” @andybanksuk
“read the link. Sorry to hear what happened, completely wrong.” @creativefilming
Today, on Tuesday morning as I write this, we still have the burnt out caravan sat on the drive awaiting collection tomorrow. My car has gone, its fate yet to be decided: hence why I haven’t got a courtesy car as yet and Debbe has a replacement Peugeot 107, which by the way is a bloody awful, plasticy roller skate, whilst hers gets sorted out.
More updates soon.
Oh by the way, my fingers are crossed hoping mine will be a write-off because secretly I’d like to swap it for a big 4×4. I’m thinking either one of the following: Volvo XC90, Kia Sorrento or a Mitsubishi L200. Any thoughts? All depends on money of course and what we get paid out.
