The Long Goodbye

15 Dec

Today has been an eventful one so far.

First of all I took delivery of another hire car for Debbe which is to replace the P107 I baulked about in my last post. The reasons for this I’m not going to go into here as quite frankly, it’s complicated.

Needless to say, she now has a Citroen C3 from a local dealership where her Suzuki Swift is being worked on.

Secondly, a photographer from our local newspaper the Spenborough Guardian turned up as I arranged yesterday. They’re running a story on our misfortune.

“Look defiant!”

He asked, as I posed for numerous pictures both inside and out the remains of our van. As this story is published I’ll update you though these pages. I suppose it may prompt witnesses to come forward or ensure that other people remain vigilant.

Finally and more significantly I suppose, the remains of our van were taken away. This saves us having to constantly look at the depressing sight of our burnt out van every time we look out of the window.

A short video of the removal procedure, which took about 45 minutes, is embedded below.

Last Thing

The body shop dealing with my car has just called. It’s a write-off which is what I’d expected to be honest. This will be confirmed shortly by the insurance company who will ‘make me offer’.

That’s when the real fun begins!

Very sorry to read this! The same thing happened to us last year, resulting in both cars being written off!! Very scary at the time, with kids in the house! I still jump out of bed sometimes if I hear a strange noise at night. A lot of people said they knew who did it and he was questioned by the police but got away with it. Turns out our yobbish ex neighbour was the target and the arsonist was so stupid he got the wrong house, or so we think. Our caravan is stored elsewhere, so was ok. Missed a few weekends away though.Have a good christmas.

Thanks for your comments. My car has now officially been written off (see next post) which to be honest we're thankful for, keeps the memory of the event separate. Come payout time for our new Van, we'll be keeping it in storage when not in use and we're also planning some big 'piss off' security lights with CCTV on the front of the house. Shouldn't be needed; but I fear it;s needed and is also a sad reflection on today's society.
