Written Off and In the News

18 Dec

It’s official.

This morning I received a letter from my car’s insurance people informing that ‘repairs to my car were uneconomically viable’. In other-words, it’s been written off! It would have cost about £6K to repair the body-shop told me.

No surprise there then and to be blunt, we felt a sense of relief. We liked our Volvo V50 with it’s various bells-and-whistles and full leather interior; but if we’re honest we didn’t want it back as to do so would conjure up memories of this episode every-time we got in it.

Here’s a couple of pics of my car in happier times.

They need to ‘make me an offer’ it said in their letter, and will ‘call me next week’. So it’s a case of waiting then and once we know what we have to spend,  guess who’s off car shopping over the Christmas holidays with a big wad of cash in hand? Great bargaining tool that.

On a more positive front, Debbe’s car (Suzuki Swift) with its superficial damage came back from the body-shop on Friday. Good as new, This ‘superficial damage’ still amounted to some £1000′s worth and involved a partial respray, 4 new tyres, shocks and parts of the suspension. Phew!

In the News

As described in my last post on this matter, our story was published in our local weekly paper yesterday.

You can read the article for yourself by clicking on the image of the scanned article below (a larger image opens in a new window).

Not sure I like the headline though. It sort of trivialises the matter in my book and says to the reader that the biggest issue we have with this is that we will miss the few days away we were planning over the Christmas period.

I think it goes beyond that. Still, not to worry.

The above newspaper article is now available to read on the Spenborough Guardian website. Follow this link to read it.

More updates soon…

You’ve got some real toe-rags living near you by the looks of things. Having said they’re everywhere these days. Gated communities that’s the answer. Bastards – makes my blood boil.
