The saga continues but is drawing to a close.
After days of chasing our car insurance people and in particular the specific ‘file-holder’ for our claim, who never returns our calls I may add; we have eventually got a payout for our main family car that we are happy with.
By the way, two elements of advice here for anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation:
- Don’t accept the first offer they give you, negotiate.
- Don’t use Admiral Insurance – they’re communication during a claim is non-existent. You as the claimant will have to do all the chasing. Pain in the arse!
Conversion
After researching this make of car and its various model permutations, it seemed the one to go for was the SE 2.0 Diesel for towing (which uses the same engine as the Mondeo TDCi) which was the top of the range and has the sports suspension, sat-vav, full leather etc
More travelling about yesterday (Sunday) including a trip over to Burnley to view one example which when we got there, we found that the garage owner had it with him at his home. And he wasn’t in!
“Can you wait until I get there to show you?” he quipped on the phone. “I’ll be about half an hour!”
“Er, no!” And we set off back.
So where did we end up? The Appleyard Jaguar dealership on Canal Road in Bradford where they had a very fine example of a 2 litre SE Diesel which had been brought in as a part exchange.
A test drive and a bit of haggling later and we did the deal on a five year old X-Type estate. Full leather, touch screen sat-nav, bluetooth connectivity for the phone, one owner from new, full Jag dealer service history, Jag warranty and a promise that it would be fully valeted, be newly treated with Scotchguard protection inside and out, have 12 months tax, a service and 12 months MOT before we pick it up next Friday afternoon. Phew!
Can’t wait.
So that’s the tow-car sorted, now for the caravan.

I would say you got a good car there! A touch of class as well!!
Thanks for your comment – yes – the thought of this car living on our drive from Friday onwards has really cheered us up after recent events. Getting the new caravan is the next big purchase, subject to cash availability of course. So watch this space.
