New Year in Teversal

1 Jan The Carnarvon Arms Teversal Notts

Yesterday afternoon (New Year’s Eve) was spent in the nearby and enormously likable pub, The Carnarvon Arms which is just a five mins walk from the Teversal site entrance.

This is one of those ‘gastro pubs’ that concentrates more on food than it does on supping!

But fear not, we’re not talking one of those ‘two meals for a fiver’ monstrosities one often encounters around the country: this place is pretty decent both in terms of decor and the quality of grub and beer it serves – not that we had any food by the way, but the menu looked decent! Perhaps on a revisit we’ll have a go at the food. (more…)

Spoil Heaps

This morning we awoke to better weather i.e. it wasn’t chucking it down or blowing a gale!

So we decided to get out as quick as we could before the forecasted bad weather closed in again later that day. A Cadac bacon sandwich later, all booted and suited, and we were out exploring the adjacent Silverhill Woods [PDF Map Download] which forms part of the Teversal Trails. (more…)

New Year with the Best Bogs in the Business

You know when you need to get out more, lead a more exotic life perhaps or could do with living life a smidgen closer to the edge: when your Missus comes back from the toilet block after a visit to the little girl’s room, gushing the benefits of how luxurious the bogs are, how well equipped they are, how this and how that they are, above everything else!

Well that’s exactly what Missus Capers was like after pitching up after a nervous journey down a blustery M1 to the Camping and Caravanning Club site of Teversal near Mansfield in Nottinghamshire for a five night New Year break on Wednesday earlier this week. (more…)

29 Aug A Rainbow Rises over the Dunstan Hill CCC Site

Scorching Woodhall Spa

24 Apr >Scorching Woodhall Spa

On the run up to Easter we decided to book four nights down at the Woodhall Spa CCC club site once again and boy were we glad as the weather was scorching.

We’ve been to the Woodhall Spa site before, back in 2009. It’s a nice site set in amongst trees next to a pine tree plantation on a former WW2 airfield which was the historical home of the famous 617 Squadron. (more…)

All Change for Kingsbury Water Park

18 Aug >All Change for Kingsbury Water Park

We had a week a the CCC site of Keswick planned for mid August but on the afternoon of the day preceding our departure, the site manager gave us a call at home to say the place was a quagmire after all the recent rain.

So whilst we were still welcome to come and pitch up, we declined with visions of our break turning into a mud bath! (more…)
